Her vast mind

                                        *to my mother

her feet slightly touched the floor
enough to feel the chill
running up her spine
night after night
she woke up
to his voice
calling

come with me
we will roam free
in the desert land
of your soul

her eyes stayed dry
enough for her heart to kill
the last piece of sanity
keeping her alive
and this voice
in her head
calling

i was once
a free soul
I’m not dead
yet

that night she lied awake
on the cold floor, naked
they took her away
before her last breath
where the white walls
whispered
softly

you have come love
to your new land
the floors are cold
and the rest is

forgotten
